On Wednesday, Congresswoman and former Orlando Police Chief, Val Demings, had a successful campaign launch for her bid to unseat Senator Marco Rubio next year. There were prime time cable TV appearances, a well produced hype video, and she also found herself trending nationwide in the top five on Twitter for most of the day.
And among the many congratulating her on announcement were two fellow candidates that hope to share the ballot for next year’s general election with her campaign. Potential Ron DeSantis challengers, Nikki Fried and Charlie Crist, who are currently engaged in a primary.
They each wanted to position themselves to be the one running side by side with Val Demings.
Ron DeSantis' response to my campaign for Florida Governor: "She does nothing"
Marco Rubio’s response to @valdemings’ campaign for Florida Senator: “Demings is a do-nothing House member”
They lie about our records because they're scared of facing two dynamic women in 2022.

Did the day just get brighter?
Serving Florida with @valdemings has been an honor. She's dedicated her life to the people of our state. Florida needs champions like Val right now.
— Charlie Crist (@CharlieCrist) June 9, 2021
Their primary is only going to get more intense over the next year. And Demings, unless Alan Grayson gets in and starts spending aggressively, is going to have an unobstructed conversation with her voters.
You can expect both Fried and Crist to praise Demings on the stump, as they try to project their version of the ticket for the big elections next year.
It should be a lot of fun to watch.
